[f] – 10 November ) was a Turkish field marshal and statesperson who was the founder of the Republic of Turkey —after the fall of its predecessor, the Ottoman Empire —and served as its first president from until his death in Kemal Ataturk, soldier, statesman, and reformer who was the founder and first president (–38) of the Republic of Turkey. He modernized the country’s legal and educational systems and encouraged the adoption of a European way of life, with a Latin alphabet and with citizens adopting European-style names.
